I have no plans to direct a film: Jaideep Sahni
Jaideep Sahni, who has been part of film industry for almost 13 years, says he has no immediate plans to turn director.

Mumbai: Writer-lyricist Jaideep Sahni, who has been part of film industry for almost 13 years, says he has no immediate plans to turn director.

"So far I have no plans to direct a film. I am happy giving my scripts to those who are talented to take the idea ahead. I am giving ideas to directors," Jaideep told PTI.

Earlier, writers like Anurag Kashyap, Imtiaz Ali, Rumy Jaffery, Anees Bazmee and Sajid-Farhad turned directors.

Some of the well-known films on which Jaideep has worked include 'Jungle', 'Bunty aur Babli', 'Chak De India' and 'Rocket Singh'.

Jaideep had written the story and screenplay of Dibakar Banerjee's 'Khosla Ka Ghosla' and was also its creative producer.

"I may produce a film like I did 'Khosla Ka Ghosla'. If I get something which I feel is really good and I should promote, then I will definitely come on board," he said.

Counted among the most talented writers in the industry, Jaideep is excited about the release of 'Shuddh Desi Romance' which is penned by him. The romantic-comedy, directed by Maneesh Sharma, stars Sushant Singh Rajput, Parineeti Chopra

and Vaani Kapoor.

It is about love, attraction and commitment. The movie is based in today's modern yet 'desi' heartland of Jaipur.

Sushant plays the role of a casual boy-next-door Raghu and Parineeti plays a bold role of Gayatri.

"It (the film) is the journey of three restless young people who junk the society's syllabus for finding love and decide to follow their heart," Jaideep said.

With a lot of films these days being set in small towns and cities, Jaideep feels they may look like 'small towns' to those living in metros, but they are bustling cities with vibrant economies and young people.

"Our film is set in Jaipur, which is a state capital, has 22 universities, attracts one-fourth of the global visitors to India and is rated among the top 50 outsourcing destinations in the world, so it is not a small town. It is just that people have not explored this place. It has a very strong traditional flavour and is yet modern," Jaideep said.

"This mix of traditional living with modern influences is very fascinating. Earlier, it was like we had global influences but it seems things are changing now. People are looking for and are interested in stories of small and middle

towns. I want to tell stories that Indians can connect with," he said.

For Jaideep this city just does not represent a location, it is about its people, their culture. He travelled to interior parts of Rajasthan while writing 'Shuddh Desi Romance'.

Produced by Aditya Chopra, the film releases on September 6.
