Having made her mark in the small screen, Rajshri Ponnappa is now dabbling in films. Taking the Mollywood route, she is debuting in 'Pithavinum Puthranam Parishudhatmvinum' (PPP) directed by Deepesh. She speaks to City Express about her small screen experience and her preparation for the big.

The small screen experience: “Television happened to me when I was in college. They liked my voice and wanted to be a Radio Jockey. Later it was followed by a dance and a reality show, which came by. Thanks to the small screen, I have got an entry into the big screen.

Academic pursuit: Coming from a family with lot of lawyers and doctors, it was surprising for my family when I told them of my aspiration to become an actor. But my parents supported me as they recognised my talent. When I did well in my academics, they said okay to showbiz.

Film debut: I want to give my best shot with the Malayalam film, Pithavinum Puthranam Parishudhatmvinum (PPP). They spotted my photograph, which kept floating around. I did a screen test, got selected and signed a three film deal with the makers of the film.

Her role: I play the role of a nun. It is a woman oriented film - a story of two nuns and their journey. I become a nun not out of will, but out of circumstances and the film is about how my life changes after it.

No makeup: I had to cut myself from looking beautiful. I was not allowed to do my nails nor threading as they wanted thick eyebrows. I was not asked to do any rigorous homework. But they told me to learn how to behave like a nun.

Dubbing: I will be dubbing for the film too. Luckily I am very good with all the southern languages, which helps me to have my voice for my character.

Mollywood: The industry is very warm and nice. As a new comer, I was afraid in the beginning but there was sort of a secure feeling as I entered Mollywood. I am also in touch with other industries and I feel there is definitely a good sign for beginners like me.

Hunt: Malayalam film just happened to me. But I am a Coorgi and definitely longing to work in Sandalwood. Currently discussions are on for a couple of projects.

Handling showbiz: It is not as normal when you get noticed as an actor. You become a public figure and work towards it. I am in showbiz because I always liked the attention. At the same time, I want the audience to enjoy. So it actually becomes a responsibility for me.
