Hyderabad: The city is currently reeling under a spate of viral fevers with sudden seasonal changes due to incessant rains, leading to mosquito breeding in stagnant water and drinking water contamination. According to GHMC, Telugu Desam floor leader Singireddy Srinivas Reddy, there is a sudden increase in the cases of malaria, dengue, chikungunya and other viral fevers in various corporate, private hospitals, nursing homes, clinics.

The TDP corporators led by Singireddy visited several patients undergoing treatment for viral fevers in various private hospitals in the city on Sunday. The floor leader said, as many as 52 patients are being treated for dengue fever in the city that include 16 patients in Yasodha Hospital, Malakpet, 3 in TKR Icon, TV Tower, 6 in Omni Hospital, Kothapet, 12 in Aasara, Charminar, 3 in Hope hospital, Adarshnagar, 6 in Star hospital, Banjara Hills and 9 in Aditya Nursing Home in King Koti.

“Nearly 2000 to 3000 patients are visiting various hospitals complaining of viral fevers in outpatient wards. About 500 malaria cases are also being reported in the city every week. Besides other diseases like common cold, influenza and pneumonia, increase in number of patient admissions due to viral gastroenteritis is also a cause of concern,” he said.

Singireddy said viral fevers are spreading at a fast pace due to failure of the state government and municipal authorities in providing proper sanitation in the city. “The authorities should take entire responsibly and provide required treatment for those suffering from viral fevers in various hospitals,” he said. He further said, the two ministers Mukesh Goud and Danam Nagender, GHMC authorities would be responsible in case there is a loss of life.
