A 25-year-old medical student's birthday bash at a pub turned into a nightmare.

Hyderabad: A 25-year-old medical student’s birthday bash at a pub turned into a nightmare for the participants with Banjara Hills police detaining all of them in the early hours on Sunday. The reason was the pub management allowed its customers to continue the party beyond the stipulated 12.30 p.m. Police took 78 youths into custody, including 16 girls and a couple of foreign nationals, all aged between 23 and 28.

According to police, the pub management violated the timings and regulations fixed by the excise and prohibition department. Police arrested pub owner Srikanth Reddy and two employees. They gave counselling to the detained in the presence of their parents.

Sindhu, a pharma company owner’s daughter, threw a party at Tonic Club located on Road no 12, Banjara Hills, for which as many as 90 high-society youths, including those from the film industry, medical profession, fashion designing, media and modelling turned up. Police said the birthday bash began around 10 pm. Liquor continued to flow till late hours.

Banjara Hills in-charge inspector Chandrasekhar Goud said they raided the pub around 4.30 a.m. “We have taken into custody 78 persons, including 16 girls, ,” he said. “After taking those who turned up for the party into custody, we asked their parents to come to the police station. After they arrived, we counselled the youths. Later, we let then off on personal bonds. We registered cases against the pub owner and its staff. Pubs are supposed to run their activities only till 12.30 am,’’ said the inspector.
