With the escalating fight between the rebel forces in Myanmar and the junta-regime, hundreds of army personnel have reportedly crossed the Indian border and entered into the northeastern state of Mizoram in the past few days. On seeing the influx, the Mizoram government alerted the Centre requesting to quickly sent the Myanmar soldiers back to the neighbouring nation.

According to a report published by NDTV, at least 600 Myanmar Army soldiers entered Mizoram and took refuge in the state’s Lawngtlai district in view of the ongoing intense clashes in their own country. The soldiers have been currently sheltered in an Assam Rifles camp.

The development came after the Arakan Army – an ethnic armed group in the western Myanmar state of Rakhine – claimed control of a town bordering India and Bangladesh, marking the latest loss for the military government.

Mizoram Govt Requests Centre’s Attention

In efforts to bring Centre’s attention towards to rising influx of Myanmar soldier, the recently elected Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the plenary session of the Northeastern Council meeting in Shillong and informed him about the ongoing situation.

During the meeting with the Home Minister, the Mizoram Chief Minister has emphasised the need for a swift repatriation of the Myanmar Army personnel from the state, NDTV reported citing its sources.

“People are fleeing from Myanmar to our country for shelter and we are helping them on humanitarian grounds. Soldiers of Myanmar are coming to the state to seek shelter. Around 450 army personnel were sent back,” Chief Minister Lalduhoma said while talking to media after the plenary session.

Reportedly, the authorities have been sending the Myanmar soldiers back within days of them crossing over the borders.

Myanmar’s military government in the past few months has been put on a test after three ethnic minority forces known as the Three Brotherhood Alliance launched a coordinated offensive against it. This offensive, named ‘Operation 1027’, began in late October last year.
