HUBLI: Here is a classic example of public money being wasted due to official delays. The police department even after paying large rent for the last four months for the proposed East traffic police station building, which it intends to start at Kusugal Road, is not functional.Reason: the station is yet to get its staff, which is one among the reasons for the delay.Realising the need for another traffic police station in the city, the Home Ministry had issued an notification in this regard a year ago. Areas coming under the control of North and South Traffic police stations were bifurcated for the new traffic police station, such as Gadag Road, Navalgund Road, Sulla Road, Moorusavira Math Road and Lamington Road in corporation limits.Sources said, the sanctioned staff strength includes 54 police constables, 18 head constables, four ASIs, two sub inspectors, and a station house officer. Although the department has posted a station house officer and four ASIs, these officers are yet to register themselves as they are made to work from the North station. Meanwhile, the commissionerate rented a private building on Kusugal Road three months ago for the station. The commissionerate despite paying a monthly rent of Rs 18,400, has left the building idle.
