If you have ever worked in the fields or are familiar with farming, you must have noticed colourful markings on various pesticides or poisonous substances. However, you may not be aware of the level of danger these colours represent. It is essential to understand the toxicity indicated by these colours before using pesticides or other items marked with them.

Jai Kishan Kumar, Assistant Director in the Agriculture Department of Purnia district, Bihar, told Local18 that it is crucial to have accurate information about these colours and to take precautions in time. He mentioned that warnings are often provided alongside these dangerous colours on many poisonous substances and pesticides, to help people protect themselves.

How to Identify

Jai Kishan explains that bright red indicates highly poisonous or toxic, with red representing the highest level of danger. Bright yellow signifies extremely poisonous and highly toxic, though slightly less dangerous than red. Bright blue marks items are moderately poisonous and toxic, while, bright green indicates those that are less poisonous and less toxic.

He urged farmers to use pesticides with caution. “If you are using poisonous pesticides in your fields, you should wear a cap to cover your head and gloves on your hands while spraying them,” he advised.

He also noted that many people handle mosquito repellents at home without proper protection. He stressed the importance of washing hands thoroughly after use and keeping all poisonous substances away from young children.
