CHENNAI: As many as 40 sovereigns of gold jewellery were stolen from the house of a lathe workshop owner at Pattabiram on Wednesday.Subramani (45) of Balavinayaka Koil Street and his family were away at Thiruninravur to attend the funeral of a relative when the burglars struck. When they returned home in the evening, Subramani found the front door lock broken open and gold ornaments missing.In another incident, R Rama (52) of Malavika Avenue in Thiruvanmiyur lodged a complaint with the police, alleging that 40 sovereigns of gold jewellery were missing from the safe in her house. In Vysarpadi, a two-sovereign gold chain belonging to Shanthiselvi (31) was snatched by bike-borne thieves when she was standing near a shop.Diesel Spill on Road Diesel spilled onto a road at Kasimedu on Wednesday after the valve of a tanker lorry transporting the fuel diesel broke when another lorry hit it from behind.The tanker that was transporting diesel was headed to Ennore from Korukkupet. It met with the accident when the vehicle was proceeding on S N Chetty Road. Due to the impact of collision, a valve of the tanker broke and the diesel stored inside spilled onto the road. The police arrested Thamizharasan (25) of Ernavur, the driver of the other lorry.
