Hindu to advise Pakistan PM on madrassas

Islamabad: Pakistan's Caretaker Prime Minister Muhammadmian Soomro has appointed Amar Lal, a Hindu, as his special advisor to monitor the process of registration and reforms of Deeni Madaris, Online news agency reported.

Soomro ordered his appointment December 16. Lal will enjoy the status of a federal minister.

As per the information collected by Online, Lal wrote to the ministry of religious affairs Wednesday directing its secretary to provide him all the records pertaining to reforms and registration of madrassas - the Muslim seminaries - besides arranging a special briefing for him.

Lal also issued directives that he be briefed about the syllabus of Deeni Madaris and the mechanism of registration. He also sought details on the rules and regulations in place to run seminaries, and inquired how the madaris contact government and how it helps them.

The ministry has started collecting all records about Deeni Madaris.
