BANGALORE: Amid increasing prices of fuel, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) have also increased bus fares. Commuters, reeling under the price rise, have expressed that the increase in fare will greatly impact those who take the public transportation daily.
Shopkeeper Shankar Murthy who commutes everyday from Yeshwanthpur to Silk Board Junction believes that a hike in bus fare should not compensate for the oil price hike.Vijaya Kumari, a teacher who was waiting to take a bus to Davangere said, "The government should look at ways to subsidise urban public transport probably increase the road taxes and RTO taxes further. But then there should be a clear commitment from the government that the excess revenue generated will be used for subsidising public transport, I was paying Rs 182 but now we have to pay Rs 193, this is not fair."
