These days ask any big filmmaker what they are upto next? The typical answer is.....its too early to comment or still finalising the right cast or dont know. And for the stars the new fashionable answer is....I am under contract. So,cant give out any details. But you know that the film is already on the floors. (Thank God "ye zara hatke hai" reply is going out of fashion now.)
I also tried hard to understand the whole situation but so far have come out with only two conclusions.....1)Either there are no real STORIES to hide.Films like Bunty aur Babli, Salaam Namaste,Neal N Nikki or 2)The stories are direct lift from the Hollywood DVD's like Zinda,Ek Ajnabee.
So,in this situation if they talk more about the film then of course who will go to the theatres? Its better then to make a nice promo and get the audience to the theatres to realise there is nothing or nothing new.
And lot many believe, the more you hide things, audience will be more eager to watch it. So,its just smart strategy not to divulge out the details. A strategy which Yashraj Films follow religiously for all their films.
But I completely disagree. Look at Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt's movies. They dont hide anything...the stars, the story, even the real source of inspiration. They even invite the press guys to cover the on location shoots also. And still they deliver hits.
When Nagesh Kuknoor's Hyderbad Blues 2(the sequel to Hyderabad Blues)released, at that time only he was thinking about Iqbal. Then he wanted to name it Kolippad Express. And whoever wanted to know more about his next project he clearly gave out all the details. And see the final superb result. We all knew the story but still we all loved it. Thats what a good film is. It all about "HOW" you do it and not "WHAT" you do. "HOW" can make all the difference. Isn't it ?
So,why play this hide and seek game? Of course, curiosity value does work to some extent(like with RDB where it was known that the story has something to do with the young guys getting into the characters of young revolutionaries and following them. But "HOW" it was not clear) but then it raises expectations too.(Like with Mangal Pandey)
I guess,it simply comes down to simple good movies and HOW you make WHAT you want to make. So,concentrate on your movies dear and SPEAK UP about your movies.(either too early or too late, who cares?)For film buffs like us give us something to talk. Would always like to know whats new? And stop playing hide and seek. What say ?? HOW or WHAT ?

I have never understood this. Every celebrity loves to hide their private life, more so if its colourful too.Be it politicians, cricketers, filmstars or even high profile criminals. But filmmakers? They love to hide facts about their new films. BUT Why ?
