BANGALORE: To stimulate and encourage government doctors, the Health and Family Welfare Department has decided to associate itself with Karnataka Government Medical Officers Association to select and felicitate seven doctors from more than 5,000 doctors across the state on Doctors Day slated for July 1. With this, the department in Karnataka becomes the first to celebrate Doctors Day.Till now, the Doctors Day has been celebrated by the Karnataka Government Medical Officers Association and National Rural Health Mission, Karnataka.It is initiated by Minister for Health B Sriramulu to honour government doctors.The objective of the programme is to encourage doctors working at government hospitals, says S Selvakumar, project administrator, Karnataka Health System and Development and Reform Project.The department plans to organise a function at Shikshakara Sadana in Bangalore in which Health Minister Sriramulu is expected to be the chief guest. The selected doctors will be felicitated with a shawl, garland and certificate.This initiative will not only encourage other doctors to work hard but also make other medical officials work as government doctors, says Selvakumar.Recently, the directorate of Health and Family Welfare Services has invited nominations from doctors for seven best doctor’s awards.The last date for receiving nominations is June 21.There are four different eligilibility criteria’s for the doctors.
