HC adjourns Jayarajans bail plea to Thursday

The Kerala High Court on Monday sought the view of the state government on the bail  petition filed by CPM Kannur district secretary P Jayarajan who has been arraigned as the 38th accused in the Shukkoor murder case.

Justice S S Satheesachandran issued the directive and adjourned the hearing to Thursday. In his petition, Jayarajan said that he had been falsely implicated in the case and charged under Section 118 (concealing design to commit offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life) of the Indian Penal Code. He stated that he had no role in the murder. He said that he had appeared twice before the SIT for hours on end. Later, he was taken into custody without being informed about the grounds of his arrest.

On February 20, T V Rajesh MLA and Jayarajan were admitted to the Taliparamba Co-operative Hospital, after their car was attacked by a group of Muslim League workers at Ariyil in Pattuvam.

It has been alleged that Venu made a phone call to the accused P P Sureshan and  A V Babu asking them to take action against the Muslim League workers.  Jayarajan also submitted that his physical condition is weak and that he is a chronic cardiac patient. His hands have been incapacitated in an attack in 1999. Thus, he cannot wear clothes without the help of a by-stander, the petition said.
