Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat has asked senior officials to fight the tendency of spending money sanctioned under the state's annual plan towards the end of the financial year and ensure its timely expenditure.
At a review meeting held at AIIMS, Delhi where he is being treated for a neck injury, the chief minister asked Chief Secretary Suabhash Kumar and Additional Chief Secretary Rakesh Sharma to entrust their subordinates with the responsibility of ensuring spending the money sanctioned under the annual plan on time, Rawat's media incharge Surendra Kumar said in Dehradun on Sunday.
Rawat asked them to do constant monitoring of the progress of the annual plan and keep him updated about it. He also asked the officials to see to it that reconstruction work in calamity-hit areas of the state is carried out in a time bound manner without compromising on quality.
The officials were asked to ensure that enough foodgrains and other essentials like kerosene and LPGs are stored at identified places in view of the monsoon season so that remote hill areas don't suffer from foodgrain shortage in case of roads getting blocked due heavy rains.
Heavy equipment like JCBs should be kept stationed at strategic locations in landslide prone areas so that blocked roads can be cleared of boulders without much delay, the chief minister was quoted as saying.
