New Delhi: It’s a happy weekend for Indian doctor Mohammed Haneef and his family as he is scheduled to fly back on Saturday night to his home in Bangalore from Australia after spending 25 days in detention.

Haneef's lawyer Peter Russo told CNN-IBN that he is likely to arrive in his hometown Bangalore by 1600 hrs on Sunday.

Haneef will leave Brisbane on a Thai Airways flight at midnight on Saturday.

However, the Australian government has decided not to reinstate his work visa. The visa was cancelled on July 16.

Haneef has vowed to fight to get his visa reinstated. Though the Indian High Commission has also asked Australian authorities to do so, so far, there has been no positive response.

Haneef was freed from prison on Friday after Australian authorities decided to drop all charges against him.

Haneef was moved under tight security from the Wolston Correctional Centre to an Immigration Department owned unit in Brisbane.

He spent his first night of freedom with his lawyer Peter Russo and his wife's cousin Imran Siddiqui.

The last three weeks have been a harrowing time for his family. His wife, Firdaus, who has been vocal through the period of Haneef's detention says she just cant wait to see her husband. “I am happy that he is coming back home,” she told CNN-IBN.
