The 21st annual Screen Awards saw Vishal Bhardwaj's critically acclaimed film 'Haider' winning top honours along with Vikas Bahl's 'Queen'. Actress Priyanka Chopra was adjudged the Best Actress of 2014 for her powerful performance in 'Mary Kom'.
Shahid Kapoor won the best actor award for his brilliant performance in 'Haider'. Kapoor was also awarded the Like Ok Hero (Male) award for the film and shared the best Jodi award with actress Tabu who played his onscreen mother in the film. Tabu picked up the best supporting actress award for the film and shared it with actress Seema Pahwa who won it for 'Ankhon Dekhi'. 'Haider' also won an award for best production design while Rajat Kapoor got the best story award for 'Ankhon Dekhi'.
Vikas Bahl's quirky film on self- discovery 'Queen' got him the best director award. The film was also declared the best film of 2014. The film's cinematographer Bobby Singh was awarded best cinematographer award.
In the popular category, Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone were awarded best actor and actress award respectively for their blockbuster film 'Happy New Year'.
The award night also saw young talent being honoured at the stage. Tahir Raj Bhasin was awarded the best performance in a negative role for his performance in 'Mardaani'. Tahir shared the award with actress Huma Qureshi who got it for 'Dedh Ishqiya'. Alia Bhatt was awarded Like Ok Hero (Female) award for her role in 'Highway'. Small film with a big heart 'Filmistaan' fetched three awards. Best debut director for Nitin Kakkar, best performance in comic role for actor Sharib Hashmi and best supporting actor for Inaamulhaq.
This year Bollywood's original 'Dream Girl' Hema Malini was awarded the Lifetime achievement award for her immense contribution to Indian cinema. Shah Rukh Khan in his charming style, wooed the actress on stage while handing over the award. Interestingly, SRK was launched by Hema Malini in 'Dil Ashna Hai' in the early '90s.
The event saw some spectacular performances by Varun Dhawan, Tiger Shroff, Jacqueline Fernandez. Sonam Kapoor danced with the entire cast of 'Dolly Ki Doli'. Shah Rukh Khan's performance got a lot cheer from the audience.
