BANGALORE: Its not really hard to lose yourself to music. All it takes is a mug of beer, some headbanger buddies and a whole lot of love for music. Or, the easier way is to listen to Junkyard Groove. The band shares the same status as other well known bands in India like, Pentagram, Parikrama, Avial and Thermal and a Quarter. This four-piece Chennai-based band came down to our city to rock us hard on Thursday at Hard Rock Cafe. The alternative cum indie rock band had a good list of songs for the crowd to enjoy. The play list had over ten songs all original with one instrumental number to show the combination of skill and talent. However the band did face few technically difficulties during their performance with the drum kit and sound system but quick thinking by the vocalist and his sense of humour kept the crowd entertained. They had a pulled up a good show like always and made every one's night a remarkable one. There was a huge crowd and many of them were singing the lyrics out loud with the band. The band was formed in Chennai six years ago by the vocalist. However, due to some issues the band broke up. Not letting his dreams down, the vocalist went on a quest to form a new band. The band had a new line up last year, and now consists of Ameeth on vocals and guitar, Naveen on lead guitar, Shashank on drums and Sajith on bass. Naveen is from Bangalore and he also plays for one of our famous local bands Galeej Gurus.Shashank said, “I used to play in a different band before. One night Ameeth saw my gig and asked if I could join his band. And, now here I am playing for Junkyard Groove.” Ameeth added to this and said, “Shashank is like the fourth and fifth member of the band even though we are only a fourpiece band. His beats are so heavy which carries the entire bands’ music forward. He plays two roles in the band, one on the drums and other is carrying the music forward with his beats.” The band poured their talent while having fun at Hard Rock Cafe. The guitarist Naveen, inspired everyone there to go buy a guitar and learn to play just like him. His shredding, sweeping and his blues solos were just beautiful. He made his guitar do all the talking and singing for the band.Naveen after the performance said, “I travel to Chennai couple of days before any gigs we get, jam with them for a while and then put up a show. Even though I am a part of two different bands from two different cities, I find time to practise with both the bands because music is something I love and cant have enough of .” Actually no one can have enough of Junkyard Groove, who are also playing at The great Indian October Fest 2011 on November 12.The band is really excited to play for the first time for this fest. Shashank said, “ The band has played in almost every other fest that happens in India at least once. We have also travelled to Dubai to play a concert. This is the first time that the band will be playing at this festival. It feels really great to play here and I think its going to be fun.”
