Ahmedabad: Two people were held on Wednesday with 3.2 kg gold worth Rs 88.88 lakh at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport here by the customs department. "Two passengers were held today by the Customs at SVPI Airport, Ahmedabad, trying to smuggle gold bars weighing 3,200 grams," an official release of the Customs Department said.

Hussain Ali, a resident of Bangalore, was held with 1 kg gold, while in another case, Mir Aksar Ali of Chennai was held with 2.2 kg gold by the Customs, the release said. Both the passengers were coming from Mumbai, the release said.

The gold bars were concealed in their briefs in the waist area. The total quantity of gold seized is 3,200 grams, which has a market value of Rs 88.88 lakh, the release said. Legal proceedings against them are in progress, it added.
