KOZHIKODE: Stating that the party would not take any decision that would hurt the E K Sunni faction, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) state general secretary E T Mohammed Basheer has said that grievances raised by Samastha would be solved through discussions.“The party has not taken an approach that would hurt the E K faction. If they have any grievances, that it will be solved through discussions with them. But we are not interested in an open debate regarding the issue,” Basheer said in Kozhikode on Sunday, while briefing reporters after the party secretariat meeting. The Samastha Mushavara(the consultative committee) of the Samastha Kerala Jam-iyyathul Ulama, which was convened in Kozhikode a few days ago, had expressed strong dissent over the IUML’s alleged socialising with the A P Sunni faction, led by Kanthapuram A P Aboobacker Musaliyar. The party general secretary alleged that the silence maintained by Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan on the High Court order against his son Arun Kumar shows the ‘opportunistic’ stand followed by him. “Dismissing the petition filed by Arun Kumar, the High Court has given the nod for Vigilance enquiry, thereby ratifying the decision taken by the UDF government. While being the chief minister, Achuthanandan had referred the case to Lok Ayukta. Now, it has been proved that Achuthandan was trying to save his son,” he said.Basheer demanded that Achuthanandan, who sought the resignation of Minister Ganesh Kumar alleging that his father and Kerala Congress Leader Balakrishna Pillai had used mobile phone in the jail, should quit his post as the Opposition Leader of the state.Briefing the organisational activities of the party, IUML state general secretary K P A Majeed said the membership campaign would begin only in December in view of the Haj pilgrimage season and state committee would be constituted before March 30, 2012. The party secretariat evaluated the functioning of the UDF Government as upto the mark and welcomed the movement-like approach launched by the government for solid waste management in the state.Leaders said the sharing of positions of heads of corporations and boards will be finalised within a week. The meeting of the UDF on the apportion of corporations and boards will be held on October 3.The Secretariat meeting also passed a resolution that the authorities should take adequate steps to solve the legal issues regarding the allocation of compensation to the victims of Mangalore air crash and ensure speedy disbursal of compensation. It also welcomed the Supreme Court order regarding the total ban on endosulfan in the country.
