BANGALORE: Taking advantage of technology, the city traffic police have cracked a hit and run case in which a 28-year-old HR head of a private company was killed in front of Gayatri Vihar Gate on Ramana Maharshi Road in the wee hours of Thursday. The police have arrested Dasharath Singh (49), a resident of Nagarabhavi and a driver of a cab which was hired by Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC). Singh, speeding in a car, had knocked down Arjun who was crossing the road to hire an auto on Thursday morning and did not even bother to stop and look at him. Though the police shifted Arjun to hospital, he succumbed to injuries and excessive bleeding. The police gathered the samples of plastic pieces of the vehicle that had hit Arjun from the spot and it made clear that the vehicle belonged to KSTDC. As the vehicle was coming from BIA towards city, the police enquired at BIA about the KSTDC vehicles that had left the airport some time before the time of accident. As the KSTDC cabs are equipped with Global Positioning Systems (GPS), the police verified the records and learnt that about eight KSTDC cabs had passed on the spot where the accident had taken place. They also verified the timings and confirmed where were those vehicles at the time of accident took place. With this, the police finally zeroed in on Dasharath Singh, whose car was damaged and was at a garage in R T Nagar. Upon interrogating, Singh admitted the crime, the police explained. Meanwhile, City Police Commissioner B G Jyothi Prakash Mirji has said that the police would not spare those who drive in a rash and negligent manner. “Hit and run cases are increasing and they will be considered very seriously,” he warned.
