New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday said the central government can take a decision on implementing the Majithia wage board recommendations for working journalists and non-journalists of newspapers, agencies and visual media.
The apex court bench of Justice Dalveer Bhandari and Justice Deepak Verma gave the ruling when the centre said it was not able to take a decision on the recommendations as the matter was pending before the court.
The court, however, said the central government's decision on the recommendations would be subject to the final outcome of petitions by several newspaper organisations and agencies challenging the same.
Newspaper organisations like Ananda Bazar Patrika, Times of India and several news agencies have moved the Supreme Court challenging the wage board recommendations.
The Majithia wage board has recommended a steep hike in the salaries of newspaper employees and journalists. The court will commence hearing on the petitions on October 11.
