The state government will provide financial aid for setting up a cultural centre at Radha Lakshmi Vilasam (RLV) College of Music and Fine Arts in Tripunithura, Culture Minister K C Joseph has said.
He was speaking at the concluding ceremony of the week-long platinum jubilee celebrations of the college on Tuesday. He directed the college administration to submit a detailed development plan for the institution, based on which the government could provide financial assistance.
“The government is keen to provide all assistance for the development of RLV College, which has been fostering the rich cultural traditions of Kerala,” the minister added.Highlighting the significance of RLV College, Joseph said that the college played a vital role in giving shape to the talent of many gifted artists. “The pre-eminent position of RLV College in nurturing the talents in music and performing arts should be carried forward. The faculty members and students should take up the responsibility to maintain the reputation of the college,” he said.
Earlier, before the concluding ceremony, ‘Guruvandanam’, a function to felicitate former faculty members of the college, was held. As many as 30 former staff members attended the function, including Kalamandalam Kesava Poduval and Cherthala Thangapa Panikkar.
Kesava Poduval said that the faculty members of RLV college were fortunate because they got the chance to contribute towards grooming cultural talents for the country. He added that the older former faculty members were luckier than the later staff, as they had got the chance to work with the renowned Kathakali exponent Kalamandalam Krishnan Nair.
On the occasion, RLV College principal M Balasubramaniam honoured the former faculty members by draping ceremonial shawls. The celebrations ended on high note, with the saxophone concert by Kadri Gopalnath enthralling the audience in the evening.
