VELLORE: Alka Tiwari (21)from Fatepur in UP, who had been receiving treatment for her disease Allogeneric Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemogloinuric at CMC hospital in Vellore passed away on Monday. Born as the youngest in a poor farmer’s family, she had applied for ‘mercy killing’ to the government, after which the Health Ministry came forward to fund her treatment.After several tests, hospitals in the North recommended her to approach CMC for treatment. She along with her brother Brajesh came to Vellore in October end and here they had problems in receiving the promised Central government fund. The treatment, however, began by mid November with local donations. They were said to have received the Central government aid later. Bone marrow transplantation was done on December 2011 and her mother Suraj Mukhi Tiwari was the donor.Her brother Brajesh said, since the transplant she had been developing many organ infections one by one. He said, “we had come here with our last hope, but we had to go home with empty hand.’’
