THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Forty-five minutes is too short to narrate the story of Gandhiji. But ‘My Dear Bapuji’, an animation movie on Gandhiji’s life, has tried to capture the man and his vision in the short time in a way which is enough to bring in a change in the viewer’s mind.Or so believe the makers of the animation film, which is one of the first attempts using the medium. The animation film has been made by Krishnanjali Productions with the support of Kerala University’s Department of Gandhian Studies, Ernakulam Gandhi Peace Foundation and Poornodaya Book Trust. The movie will be released by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at a function to be held in his chamber at 6 pm on Friday. The first copy will be received by Gandhian P Gopinathan Nair. Three kids come across a genie, who shares the story of Bapuji with them. All important milestones in the life of Gandhiji have been recreated, telling the children to put in hard work, which alone will bring success. The makers of the Gandhi animation movie say that they wanted to carry the message of Gandhian ideology to the younger generation and what better way to do it than through animation. They have created characters bearing resemblance to real-life personalities. According to Saiber, the director of the animation movie, around 2,000 photographs related to Gandhiji’s life, Gandhiji’s autobiography, other books related to Gandhiji, documentaries, feature film etc were referred for the making of the film. "We have tried to achieve maximum accuracy in characters and backgrounds and provide more information through captions and narrations. In short, this could be a prominent biography of Mahatma Gandhi for children,’’ said Saiber. The film is in 2D format. But the backgrounds of some scenes have been designed in 3D format. It took 15 months to complete the movie. The makers are now planning to dub the movie into English and Hindi and other Indian languages as well. Research, screenplay, character design and animation have been done by A K Saiber, production by Ratheesh Pazhayaveetti (Krishna Infotech, Kochi) and music by Sibi Kuruvila.
