The city zoo witnessed heavy rush of students on Tuesday. Holiday, coupled with a free entry for students, turned the place beaming with activity. The zoo allowed free entry to students as part of the Wildlife Week celebrations which began on Tuesday.
Interestingly, surprise awaited the visitors to the botanical garden with questions related to wildlife in the evening. Organised by the Directorate of Museum and Zoo, a quiz competition will be held every evening till Sunday, where the visitors will get a chance to get surprise gifts from the quiz master.
According to the security in the zoo, there was an increase in the inflow of visitors and they are expecting heavy rush in the coming days. With their ID cards in hand, students can walk free to the zoo.
As there was no class on the Gandhi Jayanthi day, students made a beeline to the zoo. Apart from students, the zoo had visitors from other parts of the country, especially from North India.
Film shows too were organised in the Museum auditorium as part of the celebrations. The shows will be held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The zoo authorities has also taken steps to woo visitors to the Natural History Museums on the compound.
Meanwhile, piling up of plastic bottles and food waste is taking its toll on the beauty of the botanical garden. ‘No Plastic, Keep green’ all remain mere slogans. “Plastic bottles, food waste and above all the stingy smell of urine are polluting the atmosphere. The pathetic condition continues despite there is a ban,” said Saritha, a student of University College.
