Four Maoists on Thursday surrendered in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Kondagaon district, the police said.
The Maoist cadres, including a couple, said that they were disappointed by "ill treatment" of lower rank cadres by senior leaders from Andhra Pradesh and their "exploitation" of tribal women as well as extortion from villagers, Kondagaon Additional Superintendent of Police Surjit Atri told PTI.
Those surrendered include a former section commander of the Maoist Chema people's militia group, Beer Singh (30), his wife Bhagwati Korram (25), Chitu Sori (25) and 'Hadi' alias Ramchand Korram, all natives of Mardapal police station limits, who were active in the North Bastar region, the police official said.
Chitu surrendered along with a muzzle loading gun, he added.
According to the surrendered Maoist cadres, they were forced to join the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) by 'Mangtu' alias Lal Singh, who headed the Maoist Chema Janatana Sarkar group, and is currently in jail.
They also blamed Andhra Pradesh based Maoist cadres for thwarting development works in the region, the official said.
The surrendered rebels would be rehabilitated as per the Chhattisgarh state government's policy, he added.
