Former CM favours Valmikis

Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa on Sunday said that he would ask Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar to appoint a person from Valmiki Community to Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC).

Speaking at a ‘Guruvandana’ programme to Sri  Valmiki Prasannananda Swamiji organised by ‘Sri Valmiki Nayaka Seva Trust’, Yedyurappa asked the community leaders to prepare a list of meritorious students belonging to the community district-wise and promised assistance from the government to pursue their education. He wanted the community to give importance to education and urge their children to join civil services. He claimed that he had launched many welfare programmes for the uplift of backward communities including the Valmiki community, while he was the CM. “It is me who declared a state holiday for the Valmiki Jayanthi,” he said. Deputy CM R Ashok, Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje and others were present.
