THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Finance Minister K M Mani has given due consideration in his budget for developing the infrastructure in the state. Reiterating the government’s commitment to the realisation of the Vizhinjam port project, there has been an allocation for `150 crore in the budget. For developing infrastructure of the Smart City `10 crore has been earmarked. For the Kochi Metro project `25 crore has been allocated. `.30 crore was set apart in the budget for the Kannur airport.Kottayam mobility hub, to be set up at Kodimatha, is an important proposal in the budget envisaged to promote road, water and rail transport.The Intercity bus terminal, boat terminal, and train terminal at one spot will be set up under a special purpose vehicle. `5 crore has been allocated for this project.Kottayam-Kumarakom- Cherthala Tourist Highway The four-lane tourist highway linking Kodimatha-Kumarakom- Cherthala is a major proposal in the budget. `5 crore was set apart for the highway which is expected to give an impetus to the tourism sector.Ring Roads, Bypasses For solving the traffic bottlenecks in the cities and towns, ring-roads linking major roads, would be constructed.To start with, ringroads will be constructed at Varkala, Kottayam, Pala and Mampra and Manchery in Malappuram district.`10 crore each has been set apart in the budget. For the completion of the major bypasses in the state, a timebound action programme will be implemented. In the initial phase, Changanassery Western Bypass, KSRTC link-road at Palakkad, Ayarkunnam and Kuttillam Bypasses in Kottayam district, Jyothis Junction bypass at Kattappana, Amalanagar-Mannuthi bypass at Thrissur will be taken up soon. `6 crore has been set apart for this project.High Range Development Authority will be formulated for which Rs 5 crore has been allocated for initial works. The construction of the Hill Highway will be started this year. `5 crore has been allocated for this. A master plan will be prepared for the traffic development of the state taking into account the requirements of the state in the coming 50 years.Rs 10 lakh has been earmarked for its initial works.In the next five years the standard of 1,000 km of roads in the state would be improved. For this `5,100 crore is required. For the implementation of this project State Road Improvement Project will be formulated.There is fiscal allocation in the budget for several roads including the Kochi Seaport-Airport Road, Kottayam- Nattakom College Road, Ponnani-Vengalam Road, Kumbala-Badiyadukka Road, Nellikunnu Bridge and Nellikunnu Beach road.`30 crore has been allocated for the capital city development.
