Flash mob for a noble cause
Flash mob for a noble cause

The volunteers of ‘Save a Rupee Spread a Smile’ (SARSAS) conducted a flash mob at Shangumugham on Sunday evening for their project titled ‘Arivu’ for collecting books for all old-age homes and orphanages in the district.

The volunteers, 40 altogether, danced to the tunes of music, which attracted a huge crowd. Though rain played spoilsport, the team did not back out. They danced to the music, which was a mix of western and folk.

“We were prepared to dance even if it rained. So, it did not matter much,” said Sanju Soman, a volunteer. The dance was seven minutes long. After the flash mob, the volunteers distributed pamphlets on ‘Arivu’.

“We aimed at making a different kind of announcement for our project. Initially, the volunteers alone were there. Later, our friends too expressed interest in joining us and the number of members increased from eight to 40. We have been practising since Onam holidays. Working professionals too were part of our group,” said Aarcha R Babu, another volunteer.

The team trained under two professional choreographers free of charge.

For those who have more than 15 books to donate for ‘Arivu’, the volunteers would arrive at their houses within a 10-kilometre  radius in the city and collect the books.
