KOCHI: The Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training (CIFNET) has invited applications for admission to the four-year Bachelor of Fishery Science (nautical science) affiliated to Cochin University of Science and Technology and approved by the Director-General of Shipping to qualify as nautical deck cadets.Candidates who have passed Plus-Two with 50 per cent marks in Mathematics and 50 per cent aggregate marks in other science subjects and minimum 50 per cent marks in English in std X or Plus-Two and aged below 20 years can apply. A written test will be held on June 10 in English, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and general science at CIFNET, Kochi, Chennai and Vishakapatnam.On successful completion of this degree course and four basic modular courses under STCW 95, the candidates will be eligible to directly (without post-sea courses) appear for Mate Fishing Vessel Oral Examination leading to issuance of Mate of a Fishing Vessel Certificate of Competency and also for CDC. The prospectus and application can be had by post or in person from the Director, CIFNET, Fine Arts Avenue, Kochi-16 on payment of application fee of `500 for general and `250 for SC/ST on cash payment or by demand draft drawn in favour of senior administrative officer, CIFNET, payable at Kochi with self-addressed stamped (`15) up to May 18. CIFNET has also invited applications for admission to trade courses such as vessel navigator and marine fitter formulated by the Directorate General of Employment and Training, Ministry of Labour, New Delhi, under craftsman Training Scheme of National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT). The prospectus and application can be had by post or in person from the Director, CIFNET, Fine Arts Avenue, Kochi-16 on payment of application fee of `300 for general and `150 for SC/ST on cash payment or by demand draft drawn in favour of senior administrative officer, CIFNET, payable at Kochi with self-addressed stamped (`15) up to May 18.
