BANGALORE: For some of his colleagues he is a fireman. And for some others he is an actor.Forty-nine-year-old R Krishna Murthy, working at the Karnataka Fire and Emergency services for the past two decades has a creative side too. Apart from acting in more than four hundred plays he has also directed nearly four to five plays. The man has also acted in television serials. Some of his most noted plays are Krukshetra, Dhanshiv Karna, Dharma Vijaya and Bellaki Indu Bedharyavu.Talking to City Express, the actor said that he was inspired by Dr Rajkumar who ignited a fire within him to become an actor. “I used to watch Dr Rajkumar on screen and decided that I would be an actor too,” he recalls.“My wife Ramavathi is my backbone as she strongly stood with me during times of success and failure,” he says.Born in a poor family, his father Ramaiah was a mason. One can call Krishna Murthy multi talented as he was a state level kabbadi player and a light music singer. “It was my father who encouraged me to step into theatre,” remembers Krishna Murthy. The man started his journey as a small character artiste at the age of 13.As a young man he never missed watching the practice sessions of a drama troupe that performed near his house on every Saturday.“Those session that I watched as a young man gave me the impetus to achieve more,” he says. He made his debut in 1983 as a small character artiste, and later in 1985 he started a drama company by name Shri Bhuvaneashwari Kala Vrindha with the help of his friends.Krishna knew that the sky is the limit. So he started exploring his acting talent under the guidance of P Vajrappa, Kolar Srinivas, Ranganath and Krishna Rao.Interestingly, the man has won many awards like the Tiger of Mysore Tipu Sultan award for his firefighting skills, but so far, neither the state government nor the Karnataka Fire and Emergency services has recognised his contribution to art and drama.
