CHENNAI: The seventh edition of Prakriti Foundation’s One Billion Eye’s Documentary Film Festival is taking from today till August 19 at the Alliance Française, Nungambakkam. The theme of this year’s festival will be Gandhi. As a way to revisit Gandhi’s life, the festival will comprise movie screenings, talks, puppetry, theatre shows and music. Today, there will be a screening of Gandhi: Twentieth Century Prophet, a film by the late AK Chettiar, famous Tamil travelogue writer, journalist and documentary filmmaker. On August 16, a panel discussion titled ‘Why is Gandhi cool even today?’ will take place. The panel will comprise of VR Devika (Managing Trustee, Aseema Trust), Ram Subramaniam (Chief, Samanvaya) and C Annamalai (Director, Gandhi Study Circle) to name a few. Gouranga Charan Dash from Orissa will perform Bapu Katha, a shadow puppetry narration of Gandhiji’s life, on day three. A collection of Gandhiji’s favourite bhajans will be rendered by classical musician Bombay Jayashri on the final day of the festival.A jury consisting of K Hariharan (Director, LV Prasad Film & TV Academy), VR Devika, and Paneer Selvam will watch the films screened on each day of the festival and award a prize of `25,000 to the best film.
