Federer to meet Davydenko in US Open semis
Nikolay Davydenko was first to enter the men's semi-finals.

New Delhi: World No. 1 Roger Federer brushed aside the challenge of American Andy Roddick in straight sets 7-6, 7-6, 6-2 in the US Open quarter-final on Wednesday to enter the semi-finals.

Roddick did not face a break point in the first two sets but Federer saved his best for the tie-breaks.

This is Roddick's 10th straight defeat to the Swiss. Federer will now face Nikolay Davydenko in the semi-finals. Federer has a 9-0 career record against the Russian going into the semi-finals.

Earlier, Davydenko was first to enter the men's semi-finals at the Flushing Meadows making made short work of Tommy Haas in the quarter-finals.

Davydenko completely dominated the encounter and it was hard to believe that Haas had come up with a great performance in his previous match against James Blake. No. 10 Haas made a 33 unforced errors letting Davydenko run away with the match in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-4.

"You know, I always try, always try to come to this level against Federer or like against Nadal, you know. Okay, Nadal has lost but anyway, you know, he is winning Roland Garros and plays very well. It is like Djokovic now try to come, you know, to this level, like beating Federer in Montreal," Davydenko said about his semi-final against Federer.

On the other hand Haas said he was not too disappointed at his loss.

"I didn't feel too bad, to be honest, considering playing two five-set matches in a row. Didn't really think about. You know your body's going to tweak a little bit here and there. I've been on the tour for quite some time. But those are all things you deal with now," Haas said.
