New Delhi: Four days after a Delhi court absolved Uma Khurana in a fake sting case, the schoolteacher has filed a criminal defamation suit against by a private television channel that aired the 'expose'.
Khurana – who was ‘exposed’ by a sting operation conducted by a private news channel as purportedly running a sex racket – has sued both the channel and its CEO Sudhir Chowdhry in Tees Hazari court for allegedly defaming her.
Meanwhile, the channel reporter, Prakash, and former business associate of Khurana, Virendra Arora, have been granted bail.
On November 1, Khurana - who faced public humiliation and admonition for nearly two months following the sting - was on let off by a court in New Delhi due to insufficient evidence.
"Since there is not sufficient evidence to chargesheet her in this case, I discharge her," Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Alok Aggarwal was quoted as saying by agencies.
Aggarwal said his order was based on the chargesheet filed by the Delhi Police, which virtually gave clean chit to Khurana.
The court added the decision to let off Khurana - who was manhandled by the protesting mob and was terminated from her services after August 30, 2007 - was pronounced by the court following the police chargesheet stating there was no "incriminating" evidence against her.
