New Delhi: In the wake of growing popularity of news reading apps like Flipboard and Pulse, Facebook is also planning to come with a similar app. According to a WSJ report, Facebook has been working on this project for over a year, which means that the social media giant had this project in mind before Google announced to shut down its RSS aggregator "Google Reader".
Reportedly, Facebook will roll out the app for mobile devices; there is no information on the web version yet.
The internal name being used by Facebook for the project is Reader. In all likelihood, the company will change the name before it rolls out the app.
Well, it is not going to be easy for Facebook to compete with Flipboard, which currently has over 50 million users. Flipbaord lets readers customise their own content around topics, events, and personal interests that can be shared with others.
Flipboard launched in July 2010 with much fan fair because of the clean and refined way it presented articles. Users choose from publishing sources ranging from The New York Times to Vanity Fair mixing stories with feeds from social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. The content is then formatted into one easy-to-read publication with ads that are similar to those found in the pages of glossy titles.
