New Delhi: Michael Schumacher's return to Formula One has fired the imagination of those in and around the sport and the young turks on the circuit can't wait to lock horns with one of the legends on the sport.
Reigning F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton is relishing the challenge to compete against Schumacher. Hamilton has previously spoken of his regret at never having had an opportunity to go head to head with Schumacher, but on the street circuit in Valencia, he will finally get his chance.
"He is one of the sport's greatest competitors, a legend - it'd be great to compete against him. It will not only be fascinating to see how he readies himself for his grand prix comeback, but also an honour and a privilege to race against him for the very first time. I wish him well," says Hamilton.
While Schumacher's return might have stunned many, three-time champion Niki Lauda thinks it makes perfect sense.
"Schumacher will do a super job. The comeback is a sensation per se. Formula One needs positive inputs for the fans and for Ferrari, for everything that will happen in Valencia. Well, to me it's a sensation that is needed in Formula One. How he will be doing, we will see at the Grand Prix, but surely not bad," says former world champion Lauda.
This season's championship leader Jenson Button is also pleased at Schumacher's comeback
"Everyone is saying he can only lose because if he wins it will be expected, and if he doesn't, they'll say he's lost it. It's a tough position for him to be in but I'm happy he's taken up the challenge and it's very brave of him," he says.
The Valencia circuit has been modified since Schumacher retired and the ban on "in-season testing" could also go against the F1 legend.
Schumacher's only option left is to prepare on Ferrari's simulators for his first drive in a 2009 specification Ferrari.
