BANGALORE: Though the festival of lights is over, complaints of eye injuries due to bursting of crackers continued to pour in at city hospitals. On Friday, the Minto Ophthalmic Hospital registered eight cases of eye injuries due to crackers. Out of them, three were admitted to the hospital.During the three days of the festival, the hospital treated 49 patients with eye injuries, whereas last year it was 47 cases. Currently, 15 patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital.Similarly, a total of 54 patients were treated for eye injuries at Narayana Nethralaya, of which 33 were reported to be children below 16 years. Last year the hospital had treated 50 cases with eye injuries. In one of the severe incidents, 32-year-old Ramachandra, a resident of Yelahanka suffered cornea damage on his left eye while watching others burst crackers. On Friday, during the surgery, his left eye was removed as he had lost the vision.According to the doctors, despite awareness, cases of eye injuries were reported to be on the higher side during this Diwali. The Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital on Friday treated two patients with burns injuries.Speaking to Express Dr Bhanumuthry, RMO (additional in-charge), Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital said that during this Diwali festival, as many as 28 patients with burns injuries inflicted while bursting crackers have been treated in the hospital.12-year-old boy injured while bursting crackers, diesBANGALORE: A 12-year-old boy died due to burn injuries caused while bursting crackers. The incident was reported in Hesaraghatta Main Road in Soladevanahalli police station limits.The deceased Chetan, was a school dropout. He had sustained injures on October 14, and died on Friday afternoon at Victoria Hospital. His parents had passed away a few years ago, so the boy livedwith his grandmother.According to the police, the boy had purchased crackers for Ganesha festival. Some crackers were left and worrying that crackers would be spoiled if kept for long, Chetan decided to burst them on October 14.He set fire on all the crackers at once. While bursting, he sustained burn injuries on his face and all over his body.He was admitted to Victoria Hospital, where he succumbed on Friday.
