TIRUPUR: The police have registered cases against Congress councillor V K Chezhiyan, DMK town deputy secretary T K T Nagaraj and nine others for threatening a woman cable television operator and extorting money from her. According to police sources, Nandhini alias Nageswari married Ramesh a few years ago after a love affair, despite her parents’ opposition. A resident of Navalar Nagar at V Mettupalayam on PN Road, near here, she was also running Raja cable television. Recently, she lodged a complaint with the Tirupur North police against her father S B Nagaraj, DMK Tirupur town secretary Nagaraj and Tirupur Corporation ward six councillor V K Chezhiyan (Congress) and seven of her relatives, alleging that they were threatening to grab her cable television business. She also alleged that they had waylaid and threatened her at Venkateshpuram in Tirupur last August 19 with iron rods and extorted `25,000 from her, besides threatening to kill her.Following investigation, the Tirupur North police registered cases against all the 11 people under 10 sections of the Indian Penal Code.Nagaraj was already arrested on Saturday last in a land grabbing case. Efforts are on to arrest the others involved in the case. The other accused have been named as Jayaraj, Jaganathan, Dhanabal, Dharma, Ramesh, Kumar, Alagirisamy and Shanmugam.
