About 15 private engineering colleges, against whom complaints have been received for charging fee in excess of the prescribed amount, have now come under the scanner of the Anna University with the varsity initiating an inquiry against the erring institutions.
Sources in the university said since the end of the admission process in August, the varsity had been receiving a number of complaints regarding “special fee” being charged by affiliated private colleges in excess of the prescribed structure.
Officials said that those complaints that seemed “genuine” have been followed up. “The nature of complaints is fairly similar. Colleges have been alleged to have charged huge amounts as hostel, food and development fee. We are probing the matter,” said a senior official and added that some of the complaints have also been forwarded to the regulatory committee formed by the government.
