HUBLI: The Kannada Sahitya Parishat (Kasapa) Gadag district unit has urged the state unit of Kasapa to elect Jnanpith awardee Chandrashekhar Kambar as president of the 78th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana which will be held at Gangavati of Koppal district in November this year.Speaking to the media at Gadag on Wednesday, Kasapa district unit president Prof A B Hiremath said that it will be a great honour to the poet who has been conferred with the nation’s highest literary award. It will also be a privilege for the Kasapa which would be honoured at electing the renowned writer for its national-level convention which was considered as the ‘Nudi Habba’ of the state, he said. Hiremath also condemned the statements of veteran journalist Patil Puttappa who had criticised Kambar’s selection for the award. He said that Patil had lost his credibility by issuing such statements at his age. Kambar has contributed his best in spreading the folk culture of Kannada and no one can deny his excellence in folk literature for which he truly deserves the award, Hiremath justified.“Every Kannadiga must celebrate this achievement of the poet in bringing the eighth Jnanpith award to the Kannada. We strongly condemn Patil’s statement and oppose his personal remarks against Kambar,” he added.Writers Basavaraj Sulibhavi, Chandrashekhar Vastrad, B S Gorawar, Laxmi Gavai and Venkateshaiaha were among those present on the occasion.
