Drunk couple beat child to death

KARWAR: In a dastardly act, an inebriated couple tortured their four-year-old child to death by beating and assaulting him on his head, near here on Tuesday.   Police have arrested the couple for the assault.According to police, Prema, mother of the deceased, Shushant Kurubar, had been living with one Chandru Harijan along with her son, after her husband deserted her three years ago.Prema and Chandru were staying with Prema’s mother, Kamalavva, who has been living here for about forty years, hails from Tilavalli village in Haveri taluk. The three are alcoholics and used to quarrel with one another regularly. The child used to get tortured in the process.On Monday evening, Kamalavva, after picking up a quarrel with Chandru, left the house with the child fearing that Chandru would torture him. However, she was drunk and slept on a footpath near Subhash Circle. In the evening, traffic police noticed the boy loitering around footpath and sent the boy to his parents.It was then that Prema and Chandru, who were both heavily drunk, beat up Sushant and banged his head against a wall. The boy died soon after the assault.
