BHUBANESWAR: A fast-track court here on Friday sentenced two brothers to life for killing a woman for dowry three years ago. Two other members of the family were also awarded seven-year jail in connection with the case.Chaitanya Behera and his elder brother Sukadev Behera were convicted of murder and got life sentences. The court also found them guilty of torture for dowry and handed out three years RI each.  A third brother Basant and his sister-in-law Harashmani were found guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and sentenced to seven years RI. They were also convicted of cruelty and handed out three years RI each. All the four were also given six months RI under Dowry Prevention Act. Their sentences will run concurrently. Chaitanya had married Jhunu Behera of Puri in July 2002. However, he and his two brothers and sisters-in-law had allegedly set her on fire on March 7, 2009, in Kushapada village under Balipatna Police limits where the family stayed. Jhunu died at SCB Medical College two weeks later. Police had recorded her dying declaration basing on which the husband, his two brothers and as many sisters-in-law were charged under Sections 302 and 498-A of IPC and 4 of DP Act. While four of the family members were convicted, Bilasini, one of the sisters-in-law, was acquitted by the court.
