CHENNAI: A 31-year-old orthopaedician was arrested for stealing mobile phones from fellow doctors working in a private hospital at Pallikaranai police limits on Tuesday.Police said they arrested Om Prakash Narayanan (31) of Periyar Street, Triplicane, for reportedly stealing mobile phones of his colleagues when they entered the operation theatre. “He had stolen three expensive mobile phones, including two iPhones, of his fellow doctors when they left them outside before entering the operation theatre,” said Sagadevan, inspector, Pallikaranai. After chief neuro surgeon Dinesh Naik lodged a complaint with the Pallikaranai police, cops examined the case from all angles, including footage of the closed-circuit television cameras. According to sources, a surveillance camera caught Dr Narayanan in the act.Police said that Dr Narayanan joined the hospital on August 2 and had a monthly salary of `85,000. Besides, he had a clinic at his house in Triplicane and also owned a mansion. “The mobile phones went missing from a ward where no other doctors, except for a few from the ortho department, could enter. His response to our questions made us suspicious. Later, he confessed and we recovered the phones from his house,” said the inspector.
