CHENNAI: DMK MLA J Anbazhagan was arrested in the city by the Tirupur district police early on Saturday in connection with a property grab case. Police said the arrest was made following a complaint that he threatened a man to part with his paper mill in Udumalpet.Srinivasan lodged a complaint with the Tirupur district police that his paper mill at Karumathampatti near Kaduvettipalayam was grabbed by the MLA in 2009. The MLA threatened him and registered the mill, which was worth Rs 12.5 crore then, in one Kingsley’s name. Kingsley, from Coimbatore, had earlier approached Srinivasan and asked him to part with the mill, but he refused. Later, Srinivasan was allegedly brought to the office of the MLA in Chennai, threatened and was forcefully made to register the property in Kingsley’s name.Srinivasan had given a complaint in this regard to police earlier but no action was taken. Again, he lodged a complaint and a 20-member team led by Inspector Senthil Kumar arrested the DMK MLA from his house at Mahalakshmi Street, T Nagar at around 4.30 am. After being produced before a court in Udumalpet, Anbazhagan was taken to Coimbatore where he was lodged in jail. Police sources said that they have registered a case against eight persons, including the MLA, Kingsley, his wife, brother, Sun Pictures COO Hansraj Saxena and his aide Iyyappan. Case was registered under eight different sections, including cheating and forgery. Kingsley had also been reportedly arrested. A hunt is on for the other accused.
