CHENNAI: The DMK on Friday knocked the doors of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to register its protest against the State government's crackdown against its party members over alleged land grab.DMK functionary K S Radhakrishnan complained to the NHRC that the State government had resorted to "action that displayed political bias, vendetta and personal animosity, which despite being brought to the notice of the government" have continued.The petition, which named the Tamil Nadu government and the DGP as respondents, sought the direct intervention of the chairman of the NHRC to solve the "burning issue" of "patent infraction of human rights, fundamental rights and constitutional guarantees".The government is going after former ministers and senior functionaries in the DMK "under the guise" of land grab, the petition said. "This is a demonstration of the violation of human rights," it added.The DMK's decision to move the NHRC over the issue is the latest step in the party's fight against accusations of land grab that have been received by the land grabbing wing of the State CBCID.The petition to the NHRC also stated that its cadre were being arrested even as AIADMK ministers went 'scot free'. The DMK recently took to the streets in protest.
