Chandigarh: Comedian Jaspal Bhatti has come out with a new joke on Diwali. He set up a 'Bribery Gift Shop' in the city on Friday and even demanded that the festival of lights be declared the national festival of bribes.
"This is the best day in the year when bribe-seeking ministers, politicians, bureaucrats and officials unashamedly seek bribes in the form of Diwali gifts," he said.
Saluting all bribe-seekers, Bhatti demanded that the Central Government declare Diwali as the "National festival of bribes".
He said the gift giving culture on Diwali was tantamount to accepting bribes.
Accompanied by his wife Savita Bhatti and other artistes from his Nonsense Club, Bhatti announced the setting up of his Bribery Gift Shop.
"We will provide consultancy on what kinds of gifts should be given to particular VIPs. We will also offer detective services on what people are expecting," he said.
Bhatti suggested that people who do not get gifts as bribes on Diwali because their posts are inconsequential should be given non-bribery allowance by the government.
"Those who get a number of gifts should be given leave for one week so that they can open and count these gifts," Bhatti said.
And adding to the humour, Bhatti suggested that subordinates giving bad gifts to their senior officers should be duly charge-sheeted.
