New Delhi: MTV Roadies Season 8 had a disappointing end with internet and TV audiences being rather vocal about how Anchal did not deserve to win.
The dissatisfied viewers went full throttle on the social networking sites, posting comments on their own profiles as well as the MTV Roadies page.
The grand finale, as and when it was being telecast, got a flurry of comments on Twitter and Facebook- with most people ranting about how big a let down this season has turned out to be. As soon as the episodes were uploaded on YouTube, there were people commenting on the videos and they clearly were not too happy.
Rahul Banker tweeted -"Do you think Anchal is the right winner of MTV Roadies 8? Myanswer : NO." Deepika A said on Twitter- "WHY is MTV Roadies till a TT in India? This season's finale wasstupid. Very stupid."
While the idea was that the grand finale could have been a success since a girl won the popular biking reality show after quite a hiatus. But fans seemed rather upset with the results and clearly wanted the other two finalists- Mohit or Suchit to win.
On Facebook, Imroz Khan commented on Anchal’s picture, "Anchal does not deserve to be a Roadies..." While a few were neutral about their thoughts- Shilpa Mendon wrote- "Yes, I'm happpy that after all a girl has win a title of Roadies..."
So what was so disappointing? The fact that a girl won? Or that she was not deserving? Or rather- the fact that the final decision was based on votes and not a thrilling task-as is usually expected from Roadies? Where were the death defying, dangerous tasks – that required brains and brawn?
The fact that the girls chosen this season were up and about to make sure that at least one of them wins the show – was not surprising. The last girl winner of Roadies was back in Season 3. But it seems that the viewers would have rested in considerable peace had Pooja or Anamika won- the two girls who did the tasks and survived almost the entire journey. Anchal, who got voted out before the team left for Brazil, came in as a wild card entry during one of the Brazil episodes. Though she beat Prachi to secure her place in the final 4, Anchal’s victory has been severely criticized.
During the Roadies auditions, Anchal had declared that she wanted to be in Roadies and win it because she had been told always that girls were not good enough. Her victory did not help change that perception too much it seems- she won by votes and not a task where she took others head on.
Fair enough, if one says that she took on the other contestants head on and won- but ultimately it was Mohit and Suchit who walked away with the accolades and respect.
So is it that viewers cannot handle a girl wining Rodies? Definitely not- such reactions did not flood the social network sites when Parul won. Disappointment was the norm of the grand finale.
What ever may be the reason for such a disappointing finale- MTV this time around- did not get the audience votes.
