Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who recently faced sharp criticism over the arrest of comedian Kiku Sharda, has sparked a new controversy after dressing up as Lord Vishnu in a video.
Hindu Student Federation has accused the self proclaimed godman of insulting Lord Vishnu and hurting religious sentiments of Hindus. The right wing group has alleged that the police have not registered their complaint.
In the video, Ram Rahim can be seen descending from the sky as Lord Vishnu.
This is not the first time that Ram Rahim has courted controversy for hurting religious statements. Earlier, he had dressed up as Guru Gobind Singh. The incident had sparked outrage in Punjab.
The fresh controversy involving the Dera chief comes just days after TV show Comedy Nights With Kapil's actor Kiku Sharda was arrested was mimicking Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.
Kiku, 40, was also sent to 14-day judicial custody after police produced him before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Nandita Kaushik here. He was arrested from Mumbai by the Haryana Police. He was, however, later released on bail.
Kiku was booked on December 31 under section 295 A of Indian Penal Code (outraging religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious belief). A case was registered on the complaint of one Uday Singh, a follower of Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda.
