Deputy Mayor quits, Mayor to resign on Saturday

HYDERABAD: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) mayor Banda Karthika Reddy will submit her resignation by convening a special council meeting followed by an ordinary meeting at the GHMC head office here on Saturday.Meanwhile, deputy mayor Jaffer Hussain submitted his resignation to the mayor on Friday in the presence of MIM and Congress corporators.The resignation became imminent for them in view of the agreement reached between the two alliance parties, Congress and Majilis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), two years ago.According to the pact, the Congress has to allow MIM to take over the mayoral post and in return, the MIM will hand over the deputy mayor post to the Congress for the next two years.Under Section 92 of the GHMC Act, the deputy mayor has to submit the resignation to the mayor and the same should be accepted by mayor. Then the mayor has to submit the resignation by convening a special council meeting of the GHMC.The election to the two posts will be a mere formality as they have majority in the corporation.
