ANGUL: Dengue cases in the area are on the decline if the number of patients coming to the MCL Central Hospital is any indication. On Monday, two dengue deaths were reported from Talcher.As per unofficial estimates, so far more than 600 dengue cases and 25 deaths have been reported from the Talcher industrial belt.According to information from MCL Central Hospital, against over 600 dengue patients admitted to the hospital earlier, the number has now come down to around 300 in the last three days.However, among these 30 to 40 patients have been diagnosed with dengue, said Chief Medical Officer S N Merhotra.Sources said while dengue cases are declining, the disease is very much active in Angul. Though eight days have passed since Health Minister Prasanna Acharya visited the district headquarters hospital and promised facilities for dengue test in the hospital, it is yet to be done. Only a pathologist has joined the hospital so far.“The Elisha machine, which is out of order, has not been repaired since we are awaiting technicians from Kolkata,” said Chief Medical Officer RC Behera. He was, however, not specific about the time limit for repairing the machine.Patients from the Bhusan Steel Plant area alleged that there was no sanitation drive in the plant and its periphery areas. So far, 50 persons from Bhusan Steel Plant area and its periphery have been treated at the MCL Central Hospital. Likewise, stagnant water sources at Kaniha open cast mine have become a cause of concern for the locals who have sought immediate intervention of the Sub-Collector.In Talcher coalfield areas too, there is no dengue-control drive by MCL despite instructions by higher officials and the State Government.Angul Collector S B Mishra, however, said there was no reason to worry.
